Under 9 match report from Stephen Louis, Wendover CC and Sue Evans, Dinton CC:

Wendover and Dinton in tense U9 cricket final

After winning their respective leagues undefeated, Wendover met Dinton in the final of the Under 9 Aylesbury & District Midweek Cricket League on Monday 14th July. (Played to a pairs format where everyone bats and bowls, the total starts at 200 and each wicket costs the batting side 6 runs.)

Dinton won the toss and skipper Charlie Williams put Wendover in to bat. The Wendover boys got off to a strong start with Harry Robinson (16 runs) and James Patton putting on 27 runs. It wasn't until the 9th over that the first wicket fell with the pressure contributing to some over ambitious running between the wickets. Henry Cotton (15) and Harry Charlesworth (16) scored strongly in the final overs, assisted by the Nicholson brothers. Ben Buckland and Samuel Montgomery were the pick of the Dinton bowlers and were unlucky not to pick up more wickets and Lily Buckland took a super running catch. Wendover finished with 302 runs after 20 overs, and, crucially, the loss of only 3 wickets.

Dinton girls Millie Barrow and Alice Hassall got Dinton's innings off to a steady start and Montgomery and Buckland pushed the score along neck and neck with Wendover after eight overs. The 9th over proved as bad for Dinton as it had for Wendover, and it was run outs again. James Patton's stunning throw to hit one stump from 20 yards had both sets of supporters on their feet in applause, and there were two other run outs. Krish Shah turned the game decisively with two "caught and bowled"s from his first two deliveries in the 13th over, and Chris Louis added another caught and bowled in the next over. Charlie Williams and Baraka Noel put on 31 for the last four overs, the game's best partnership, but it wasn't quite enough and Dinton finished with 285 runs with seven wickets lost, giving Wendover victory by 17 runs.

Under 11s
Played at Kimble on Tuesday July 15 2008
Wendover 281 for 9, net 227
Cublington 297 for 8, net 249
Cublington won by 22 runs

Under 11 match report from Mike Chastney, Cublington CC:

For many of the Cublington boys playing at Kimble in the Under 11 ADL Play off final, this was their third successive year in a final. However, unlike the previous 2 years, this time they won. Remarkably 7 of the 10 members of this winning team were in the Under 9 final 2 years ago, so it was really great for these boys particularly.

This was a match-up between the two unbeaten teams in the ADL under 11s, with Cublington having won the North division, and Wendover the South division. Wendover won the toss, and elected to bat, which seemed like a good idea when their first pair put on 19 in their 4 overs, without losing a wicket. Some excellent bowling and fielding from Cublington then followed, resulting in Wendover finishing on 281 for 9 (net 227).

The tight bowling of Kit Gordon-Stuart who took 1 for 5 in 3 overs, and George Lovatt, who took 2 for 8 in 3 overs did most of the damage, but 4 run outs was also a major factor, with keeper William Kirkup involved in 3 of them. The other bowlers to take wickets were Oliver Sayer, with 1 for 8 and Kurt Chastney 1 for 11.

Cublington's reply got off to a fantastic start with Calum Lawson scoring 23 runs in an opening partnership of 27 with Jack Rushmere. Runs then became hard to get against some good Wendover bowling and fielding, before a late burst of 10 runs from Alex Inglis put Cublington in a winning position with the last pair coming to the wicket. From here on it was nerves all the way, but William Hughes with 6 and Charlie Copping with 5 did not let them down. The final score of 297 for 8 (net 249) meant that Cublington won by 22 runs.

Under 13s
Played at Bledlow Village on Wednesday July 16 2008
Dinton 71 all out
Long Marston 53 all out
Dinton won by 18 runs

Under 13 match report from Dean Bosley, Dinton CC:

In a thrilling match on Wednesday July 16th at Bledlow Village CC the under 13 Aylesbury District League final was won by Dinton, who defeated Long Marston in a low scoring affair. Both these teams were unbeaten going into the final so it was no surprise that the game was tight. What was surprising was that only 124 runs were scored in the whole evening despite both these teams having posted big scores in their respective leagues.

Dinton won the toss and elected to bat. Fine bowling by James Beesley and Sam Bastin, accompanied by some quick fielding, saw Dinton reduced to 42 for 8 with George Tomlin out for a quick-fire 18. Dinton's Tommy Patel and Will Couzens then staged a fightback to put on a ninth wicket partnership of 20 that finally saw Dinton make 71 all out in the last over.

The odds seemed stacked against Dinton but George Tomlin and Humza Amjad tore into the Long Marston batsmen, and again accompanied by some fine fielding reduced Long Marston to 32 for 6. A mini fightback ensued until Tommy Patel picked up a couple of wickets in as many balls to see Long Marston all out for 53 and Dinton winning by 18 runs.

This was a fine win for Dinton as, in this match as in all their previous league games, a minimum of nine under 12 players were used, all playing their part. This was a testament to their coach Neil Smith who has produced an excellent cricketing outfit.

It was left to Dinton's captain on the night, Humza Amjad, who finished with great bowling figures of 4 overs 1 maiden 3 wickets for 7 runs, to raise the cup.
